Don’t just take our word for it. Here’s what our students have to say.
Chiamanda Passed February 2026 - Automatic
Passed on my first attempt. Rofi is the most patient and polite teacher I have ever known. I picked something new up from him every single lesson. He is an excellent instructor, I would recommend him to everyone.
Ben
My son was let down by a previous driving instructor. Rachael from Drive like a Boss was brilliant. She restored his confidence and joy of driving, getting him through his test on the first try. Would highly recommend.
Ellie - Passed February 2026
I passed my test last week and i couldn't have done it without Theresa. She was so supportive and always made sure that I understood exactly what I needed to do if something wasn't clicking, which made me a much more confident driver. I looked forward to every lesson, the Best instructor I could have asked for. Clear calm and patient throughout.
Nuala - February 2026
Passed first time with Neil! Friendly, calm and flexible with lesson times. Great experience. Thank you.
Learning to Drive and going to test in Rushden, Wellingborough or Raunds
Whether you are starting your lessons in Wellingborough, Raunds or Rushden, beginner learners will begin on quieter “nursery routes” to gain the foundation skills of driving focusing on car control and observations. These roads tend to be wider, quieter and calmer residential streets—with simple junctions and predictable traffic—are perfect for building early confidence in moving off, steering, basic manoeuvres and meeting oncoming vehicles safely.
As your skills develop, lessons naturally progress onto the busier environments where there is greater challenge within the environment and where situations are more unpredictable. You will be taking your driving test either at either the Kettering, Wellingborough or Bedford test centre. Kettering tends to be the most popular due to more test availability, and learners from Rushden might also choose to go to test in Bedford.
Test centres serving the Rushden & Wellingborough areas
Kettering Driving Test Centre
Kettering’s test routes offer a balanced mix of residential estates, urban roads and faster A‑roads, giving you experience across a wide range of driving environments. Examiners frequently include roundabouts such as Eskdaill Street, Glebe Farm and those along Rothwell Road. Residential areas around Barton Seagrave and Hall Meadow Road are often used for manoeuvres including bay parking, parallel parking and the pull up on the right.
Routes may also extend into rural areas towards Pytchley, Weekley, Warkton and Geddington, giving learners valuable practice in hazard awareness and speed control on narrower country roads.
Altogether, Kettering is an excellent place to learn to drive. The variety of road types and traffic conditions helps prepare learners not just for the test, but for a lifetime of safe, confident driving.

You will then feed onto slightly busier roads like Queensway before moving commonly using the A509, Northampton Road (A5128), Irthlingborough Road or Doddington Road. section may involve following sat‑nav directions or road signs toward local landmarks or distributor roads. Wellingborough tests consistently combine residential estates, busy A‑roads and roundabouts.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many hours will I need before being ready to take the practical test?
This is a difficult question for us to answer, as all students will learn at their own pace. The national average is around 45 hours of tuition with an instructor. Although this is a statistic published by the DVSA and we have found that these figures can vary greatly from one learner to the next. Some students will learn a lot quicker, whilst others may take longer.
Do you offer any discount?
Yes, we offer block booking discounts on our regular lesson prices. If you buy a block of 10 hours you will receive a discount.
Do I need my provisional licence before I can book my first lesson?
Yes you will need to have received your provisional licence before booking your first driving lesson. If a lesson is booked in with an instructor and you do not have your licence, the lesson cannot go ahead. By law, we need to see your licence on your very first lesson.
Do I need to pass my theory before I can start my driving lessons?
No, you can start your lessons at any time, and you do not have to have passed your theory test before you start your practical lessons. We offer access to the Theory Test Pro Programme for all our learners. Many of our learners have found revising for the theory while having practical lessons actually helps them understand aspects of the theory better. We would recommend that you study your theory whilst taking your practical driving lessons.
Can I choose my driving instructor?
Yes, if you have any preference at all on who you would like to learn with, please let us know, and we will do everything we can to try and fit you into their diary as quickly as possible.
What will my first lesson consist of?
Your first lesson will be based on your current level of ability. Generally, if you have never driven before, your instructor will drive you to a suitable location to ensure your safety whilst getting used to the car. This might be in a car park or on a quiet road. You will then go through with your instructor setting the car up so that you are comfortable and in the correct position to drive, your instructor will then explain some of the basic controls of the car. We aim to get everybody driving on their first lesson, the focus being on moving off and stopping safely. Depending on the length of the lesson and your previous knowledge/experience you may start looking at gears and junctions too.
Will my lessons be at the same time every week?
This depends on your diary and the instructor’s diary, for example many of our learners who study have week 1 & week 2 timetables. This means they need a different lesson time or day each week. Our instructors will do their best to accommodate your availability each week to ensure you receive a weekly lesson.
